During the cleaning, the dental hygienist will use a variety of tools to remove plaque and tartar from your teeth. How long this takes will depend on how often you see the dentist. If you go every six months, a lot of plaque and tartar will not build up. If you want for a year or longer, however, you will likely have a lot of plaque and tartar on your teeth, so it will take much longer to clean them. 

Brush and Floss

It is important that you brush and floss your teeth each day. Brush in the morning and before you go to bed. Brushing at noon is also a good idea if you have access to a toothbrush and toothpaste. Electric toothbrushes work better than traditional ones as they clean much better. When cleaning, make sure you get the back teeth, as well as the front and sides of your teeth. Flossing your teeth is very important, as this removes food particles that get stuck between your teeth. If you do not floss regularly, you may bleed the first couple of times, but this is normal. You should not see any blood if you continue flossing at least once a day. Flossing your teeth will help prevent cavities and keep your gums healthy, which can prevent periodontal disease.
